Set in a white bathhouse, the music video for “Bad Romance” tells the story of a woman kidnapped by a group of supermodels who plan to sell her to the Russian Mafia for sexual slavery. This is interpreted as a metaphor for how the music industry can sometimes simulate human trafficking. Lady Gaga wears several statement pieces in the video, including razor blade sunglasses, 12-inch heels designed by Alexander McQueen, and white latex leotards. She is forced to dance for men to raise her price at auction. The choreography for the video borrows heavily from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” and earned Lady Gaga a Grammy for “Best Short Form Music Video” in 2011.
