“Formation” is the lead track on Beyoncé‘s sixth studio album “Lemonade.” The music video premiered on the same day as the song as an unlisted track on Beyoncé’s YouTube page. The video itself is a commentary on politics, racism, and a celebration of black culture. It was released when the “Black Lives Matter” movement was gaining traction across the United States. A particularly poignant scene featuring Beyoncé dancing on top of a police car flooded by the waters of Hurricane Katrina. This represented the lack of support received by minorities in the wake of the disaster.
