After an attempt at an acting career, Madonna returned to the limelight in 1989 with “Like A Prayer,” which uses symbols she was familiar with from her Catholic upbringing. The video itself depicts Madonna finding courage through faith to come forward as a witness to a crime committed by white men when she sees a black man imprisoned for it. The music video itself is considered highly controversial among some due to religious imagery and depictions of the Klu Klux Klan. Despite this, both the song and music video remain popular.
