The award-winning music video for Peter Gabriel‘s “Sledgehammer” was released in 1986 and is a song about the joys of sex, with most of the lyrics in the song containing sexual puns and innuendos. The music video itself was created using stop motion animation, a filming technique in which objects are moved slightly in each frame, creating the illusion of free movement. Aardman Animations, who is known for the creation of Wallace and Gromit, Shaun The Sheep, and Morph, lent a heavy hand in this video, with animators from the company appearing in the final shots alongside Peter’s daughters.
